Painless Heart Attack

A painless heart attack, when sufferers experience shortness of breath and discomfort in the chest but feel no ache, can be the most deadly, British doctors said in mid October.

Heart attacks without pain are common, particularly among people with the combination of diabetes and heart disease. People who have them are twice as likely to die within a month and have three times the risk of dying within a year than other patients because they may not get the best treatment.

Heart disease is the major cause of death in most western countries. Smoking, high blood pressure and a family history of disease are major risk factors.
